このプロジェクトはフランスのカーペットメーカーであるバルサン(Balsan)社と多摩美術大学テキスタイルデザイン専攻の共同研究として、カーペットのオリジナルデザイン制作を行う企画でした。

Design background

ー

​In expressing things, when something can't be completely expressed, the Japanese express it with silence.Imperfect beauty makes use of blank space. We perceive this blank space as a gap between things. Imade this aesthetic sense of the Japanese my theme. The motif for the design is Hiragana, one of the syllabary unique to the Japanese language.

All of the letters of Hiragana are composed of curved lines that give a delicate rounded impression. I particularly focused on the three characteristic strokes Tome(full of stop the end of a line), Hane(curving the end of a line up slightly to the left or light), and Harai(tapering the bottom of a line) and applied this to the form of a design. By creating a composition that makes the flooring material seem to be flowing through the space, it is in constant transition, leaving a lingering effect.

This certainly expresses impermanence.

デザインの背景・コンセプト

物事を表現する際に、完全に表現できないとき、日本人は余白をもって表現します。

余白は不完全な美しさを引き立てます。私たちはこの空白を物事の間（ま）として認識しています。

この日本人の美意識をテーマにしました。

デザインのモチーフは、日本語独自の文字の1つである「ひらがな」です。

ひらがなの造形はすべて曲線で構成されており、繊細な丸みを帯びた印象を持っています。

特に「とめ、はね、はらい」の3つの特徴的な形をデザインに落とし込みました。

空間の中で床材として使用したときに、流れるような構図を作ることで常に流動的に見せ、余韻を残します。まさに、これは無常を表現します。
